A place where little ones reach for the stars

Starlight runs four licensed child care centres on the Burnaby and New Westminster border. We believe children learn best through play — so we keep groups small, keep one educator for every four children, and let curiosity lead the day.

Starlight — our daycares

Small groups, qualified educators, and prices that already include the rebate

Our Burnaby daycare centres are located on the border between Burnaby and New Westminster. We are currently part of the BC daycare fee reduction program and our prices reflect the government rebate. All of our facilities are licensed and inspected by Fraser Health and staffed by fully qualified personnel with a ratio of one educator per four students.

We strongly believe that it is through play that children learn best. Our daycare program is structured to provide a warm and safe environment with a wide range of materials which allow children to explore, discover, make choices and create to their own interests.

Care that grows with your child

Each centre is licensed for a specific age range. Pick the one that matches your child today — many families move between our centres as their child grows.

Infant & Toddler

6 months – 3 years

Gentle routines, responsive care and lots of floor time. Our smallest groups for the youngest children.

Preschool

3 – 5 years

Early reading and writing, basic math, the calendar and seasons, and cultures from around the world.

Multi-Age

9 months – 5 years

Older children model for younger ones and everyone learns to share, take turns and look out for each other.

Our philosophy

Every child grows at their own pace

Throughout our daily individual and group activities, each child develops emotionally, socially and intellectually at their own rate. We tailor our program to each child — which is exactly why we keep our ratio at one educator per four children.

Development through respect

Educators help children develop a deep respect for themselves, teachers, their playmates, parents and their surroundings. This occurs through sharing of ideas and a thoughtful approach to discipline. When ongoing guidance is led by an educator, an environment evolves where children learn to express themselves with positive behaviour.

Guidance that makes learning fun

One of our hopes as educators is to promote a love of learning in children and share our own passion for teaching. Our educators make learning fun and interactive and tailor their approach to each child's needs and age — fostering curiosity while guiding their learning so they explore and love learning about the world around them.

How we handle it

Discipline and behaviour, built on mutual respect

Our child care educators provide positive guidance, incorporating creative teaching and engagement to help children develop self-discipline and inner control over their actions. This approach is based on mutual respect and an understanding of children's needs and development.

Educators support children through redirection, consistent rules, and the acceptance of feelings, while maintaining firmness and fairness. Children are encouraged to express their emotions verbally or physically to discuss and resolve conflicts or misunderstandings with one another.

Testimonials

What parents are saying

My 2 kids have both attended Starlight Daycare and I can only say amazing things about this centre. Jenny has the perfect balance of care, kindness and discipline. My girl was more than ready to begin Kindergarten due to her preschool program and my son who is 3.5 yrs old amazes me with the skills he has developed. There is no other daycare that I feel as trustworthy and confident to leave my 2 precious kids with.

Maria · Parent

Jenny and her team have a very positive and contagious energy. Starlight staff have a great deal of patience with the children and model very good manners and behaviour. They are professional, caring and strong communicators, observing and interacting with children to help them develop and learn at their own rate. We have the utmost confidence in Jenny and her team at Starlight Child Care Centre.

Heather & Les · Parents

As a first time parent, picking a daycare was one of the most stressful choices I've ever had to make. When I visited the centre and met Jenny, Vidalia and the kids that would become my son's friends, I knew almost immediately that it was the right fit. He has so much fun at Starlight that when I come to pick him up at the end of the day, he usually doesn't want to leave.
